Rules of Play
The goal of American blackjack is to beat the dealer’s hand without surpassing 21. Two cards are dealt at the start of each round and can “hit” or “stand” on your turn to receive additional card(s) or choose not to draw any further cards. Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are worth 10 points each, Aces are worth either 1 or 11 points depending on which would benefit you more, and all other numbered cards represent what their number value states. The suits of the cards do not matter in this game.
Double Down
One key feature exclusive to American blackjack is known as “double down”. Whenever you feel confident about your hand, you may opt-in to take advantage of the double down rule wherein you double the amount wagered if your first two cards total 9-11; however, after doubling your bet no further hits can be taken for that round.
Insurance Betting
American blackjack also offers an insurance betting option wherein players have an opportunity to protect their original bet by taking insurance against a possible dealer natural which would occur if his starting hand totals 21 with an Ace & 10-value card dealt as his first two cards – thus leaving him unable to Bust unless he hits again on a subsequent round(s).
Splitting Pairs
Yet another rule unique to American blackjack allows players with matching pair card values (e.g., 2 four-of-a-kinds) to split those pairs into separate hands during the initial deal – and then hit/stand accordingly until they either bust or win one or both hands being acted upon in that specific gameplay situation.
